Doing Summer and Gene’s Wedding Photography presented some logistical hurdles being that all the planning was being done on their end from California and my end here. I was also involved in providing the DJ for their ceremony and reception, so their were other concerns with their wedding other than the photography. EVERYTHING turned out WONDERFUL. It was a GREAT day with a gorgeous sunset which we took COMPLETE advantage of.
Their wedding photos were taken on May 27th, 2007 at Ft Story Club on Fort Story in Virginia Beach. Wedding preparations (bridal party) was at the Virginia Beach resort and conference center on Shore Drive.
Summer and Gene are both Marine Corps Officers. (I don’t know who out ranked who because they are both Captains, but I’m betting on Summer having the upper hand at home)
I included examples of spot coloring from their coverage in this article because I’m asked quite a bit in consultations if I’m able to do this technique. The short answer is yes. I’ve been doing in for years, and when appropriate it looks nice. I’ve seen some really bad examples of spot coloring and have even done some really bad examples of spot coloring. But, now I know when to do it and when not to do it. If it distracts from the image, I don’t do it. If it adds to the image, it’s appropriate.
Obviously, I don’t do entire weddings of spot colored images. I generally do it on duplicate shots of the same pose, or for a photography that just SCREAMS “SPOT COLOR ME!”.
I really enjoyed shooting this wedding. Ft Story’s beach area and the dunes on the way offer LOADS of fun places to shoot pictures. The bride just has to have game to do all the walking if her dress is cumbersome. But, Summer had all the game and then some.
So, here’s some images from the ceremony and a couple of formal shots. At the end, there will be a link to a slide show which has around 120 images I selected from their wedding photography coverage.
Enjoy the slide show!
