Well! Here it is JUNE and I’m just NOW posting the first wedding that I shot in MAY! I can look at this two ways I suppose. 1. I’m completely booked and overworked so I don’t have time to update the blog. 2. I’m so very blessed to be completely booked and grateful to be so darn busy all the time just making sure that I get the proofs to the clients on time. I’ll just update the blog as time permits.
I prefer to look at the 2nd way.
Doing Annie and Ralph’s wedding photography at the Old Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach was just a GREAT experience. I’ve known the Groom since he was very very young. Long story, but here’s more of the story if you want to read more of it.
Beautiful wedding! Fun!
Here’s some of their wedding photography below:
So, basically I’m REALLY far behind with blog updates, which is completely normal for me. I AM however right on time getting proofs to all the clients for all the events I’ve been shooting. So, for THAT, I’m grateful!

Melissa and Brian had their first date at Harbor Park. So, they asked if we could do their engagement photos at the Park. The Tides were VERY nice about it and allowed us free run of the place for a couple of hours. The only downside was that it was REALLY REALLY HOT. (not a big deal for me! but, I wasn’t getting my photos taken either!)
Here are some engagement photos of Melissa and Brian at Harbor Park in Norfolk.
The wedding should be a blast! Go Red Sox!

Yes, I did back to back weddings at the Hilton, on the 18th then the 26th of April. (Last week I was at the Old Cavalier Hotel, and I’m still working on those images). I was happy to be at the Hilton though! LOVE that venue!
Another absolute blast! I was working the wedding, but my wife Kat was an invited guest so I got to eat dinner with her (which is VERY rare on weekends). I was hoping to catch her dancing and to grab a bunch of photos of that, but alas, she stayed FAR AWAY from the dance floor and opted to talk at length with Andrea’s mom. Kat has known Andrea since he was a wee lad working at La Bella Italia. Now, here he is getting married and has his own La Bella restaurant in Ghent.
Gorgeous wedding! Ceremony was at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ghent and a reception at the Hilton that went well past midnight.
Good times!
Here’s a little cross section of Marti and Andrea’s wedding photography:
Best of luck to your Marti and Andrea!

I love the Hilton in Virginia Beach at the ocean front! Kat and I were married there, and this wedding took place in the exact same spot Kat and I tied the knot. Tom Johnson does such a great job at the Hilton. There’s never a worry about anything there.
Victoria and Ryan’s wedding was wonderful! I really enjoyed their families as well since I shot the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner as well. I spared them by not showing off the Mickey Mouse ears veil that seemed to make it’s way onto everyone’s head during the course of the evening.
Great band, great food, great everything.
Here’s some of Victoria and Ryan’s wedding photography:
I still have several April Events to post on the blog! I’m way ahead with getting the proofs to clients though (which is more important after all!)

As you can see, I’m getting caught up with wedding slide shows before I get totally swamped with the back end wedding photography work. I want to enjoy the spring and summer just as much as everyone else does. This means NOT spending every waking moment GLUED to my computer. haha
This is Faith & Brady’s wedding slide show. They got married March 15th at 1st Baptist Church in Norfolk and then had their reception at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens in Rose Garden Hall.
Enjoy!
I’ve got a few more to do here, then I’ll be caught up!

Just a quick post to show you Shelby and Vincent’s wedding slide show. Each couple gets one of these in their coverage package for the most part. This is obviously a web sized version that doesn’t take forever to load, but you can get a good idea of what they look like from this.
The versions that I burn to a DVD to be played at home look AWESOME on big plasma and LCD televisions.
Got a big busy weekend coming up starting today! Victoria and Ryan’s rehearsal and rehearsal dinner today and their wedding (all day and night) tomorrow.

It finally happened! The Contemporary Arts Center of Virginia is one of my absolute favorite places to shoot weddings. It’s just a very interesting place to do wedding photography, and if the couple is into it, great things can happen. Well. Over the last 3 years, every time I’ve shot a wedding there, it’s been either raining, the dead of night, or both at the same time. It’s never been ideal conditions to do some fun outdoor photography, or ideal conditions to do some nice available light photography.
It finally happened! (did I just say that?)
Lisa and Kevin just got married at the Contemporary Arts Center. It was a GLORIOUS day. EARLY TOO! (well, we STARTED really early). What an absolutely fantastic wedding. It was truly an honor and a privilege to be there and to document the day.
Now, this is a LONG blog post, with A LOT of pictures. So, to make it easier, I’ve just started to cluster the photographs. It was like a math test to get all the resizing done properly to get it all looking the way I want it to look, but I think it was worth it.
So, without further blabber from me, here are JUST A SMIDGE of my favorites from Lisa and Kevin’s wedding.
I hope this spring keeps up like this! Best of luck to you Lisa and Kevin!

Victoria is getting married to Ryan at the end of this month! Their wedding is going to be at the Hilton Oceanfront Resort (which I love! That’s where Kat and I got married 1 year ago TODAY!)
I did their engagement photography on the beach so I thought to suggest a different location for Victoria’s bridal portraits. So, I suggested the Chrysler Museum and she agreed. I set it up with Mia at the Chrysler and it was a done deal.
Victoria’s secret word is now “MOJO!”. That word now makes her laugh every time. (the details of why I will respectfully leave private!)
Here are some shots from her Bridal photography at the Chrysler Museum:
A few of Victoria’s engagement photos taken with her fiance Ryan can be seen here
Their guestbook is killer, I’m using new albums for guestbooks and they’re just amazing. More on that in a later post, I’ve taken some shots of them so I can show you.

I had this idea to try a “trash the prom dress” kind of shoot. This would be for graduated seniors, or at least women over 18 that wanted a different kind of portrait done, or anyone for that matter that wanted something a little edgy.
I was also wanting to do some more creative lighting which there is NEVER time for while shooting a wedding. On something like this, there’s no timeline to keep and I was able to play with my photographic toys with child like glee! (I had LOADS of fun shooting this session)
Liz is an amateur model that wanted to do some shots for her portfolio, and I had a goofy idea I wanted to shoot. So, there’s a great opportunity there to do something different.
I didn’t lug around a whole studio worth of lights to do these. Just two Nikon SB800 speedlights, some pocket wizards, a reflector, and a lot of experience. haha I shot with one of my Nikon D700s with a Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens. (normally, for portraits, I’d use my Nikon 85mm prime, but for experimentation purposes, what the heck)
The location? Let’s just say it’s GREAT to have friends with REALLY BIG YARDS!
Here’s a few shots from this fun afternoon:
So, if you look your closet, and see this prom dress or other formal wear that you’d like to use ONE MORE TIME. Give me a call, I have a few ideas.

Marti and Andreas are getting married at the end of this month at Sacred Heart Church in Norfolk and their reception will follow at a new venue at the corner of Virginia Beach Blvd and Laskin (used to be Taverna?). ANYWAY! My wife, Kat, has known Andreas since he was a child and has been friends with his Mom (Anna) for many many years.
I didn’t know any of this when Marti contacted me to do their wedding photography. All of this came out after the fact. So, the pressure is REALLY on now. haha
Anna, mother of the groom, is the owner of LaBella Italia on Laskin Road.
Marti and Andreas opened a sister restaurant LaBella In Ghent about 6-7 months ago.
Kat and I have dined at both places, and if you love AUTHENTIC Italian food. There’s none better around.
We decided to go a bit more urban for their engagement photography so we started at Waterside in Norfolk and just walked around main street and the surrounding area to goof around and take some photos. This is just a smidge of what I did that afternoon.
I’m really looking forward to this wedding, there’s going to be a fairly large contingent of family coming in from Italy and Kat’s teaching me rudimentary Italian. Nothing like a situation like that to completely embarrass myself saying words where I only have a vague idea of what they truly mean. haha
